We’ve been busy AT the salon….and OUTSIDE of the salon too!

09.26.11

Back in August, Chelsea and I (Leah) attended an atelier in Boston with Oribe himself.  For those of you who are new to the site and my salon, Oribe is the name of the product line we use at La La Luxe and also the name of a style icon and hair guru who created it.  He is a celebrity hairstylist whose clientele includes Jennifer Lopez, Lady Gaga, Penelope Cruz, Christy Turlington, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss…..you get the picture. My salon was first to carry this product and La La Luxe is the only salon as of now who have this luxurious and miraculous product line…..you’ll never find this diverted to the shelves of Target or CVS…You have to use it to believe it.

Just so you can see how much we are devoted to improving our knowledge of the modern hair world, I thought I would post some pictures from the atelier in Boston.  This was a workshop that was taught and instructed by Oribe. Using one of his editorial shoots from a few years back, we were asked to re-create that same editorial look.  There were stylists attending from salons all over New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut…and little Rhody (actually, we were the only ones from Rhode Island!!) We were surrounded by extremely talented stylists and also Oribe and his team!! So cool and so inspiring…but not all fun and games.  Oribe treats his atelier/workshops as if they are real backstage editorial shoots.  The entire setup is the same as it would be on a shoot and the intensity and anxiety level is definitely high.  Models, stylists, assistants, camera’s, etc….it’s ALL there.  There are people looking over your shoulder making sure you are finishing on time and that everything is perfect.  If it isn’t….it’s coming down and you’re re-doing it. Every workshop ends with a professional photo of the work you have done to add to your personal portfolio.  So what was it that we were doing? A chignon/french twist/hair beret look.  Not joking. This is something that Oribe created.  The front has to sweep over the eye in a sexy way…sort of like a beret while the back was a mixture of two parts french twist and one part chignon. The result? An amazingly sexy, Brigitte Bardot style that screamed for attention but was SO subtle at the same time.  In the end, we learned several new techniques and styles that we are now able to use at the salon every day……not to mention the increased knowledge of the Oribe products. We were using them in ways we NEVER would have thought.  Look at the pictures below to get a little taste of what we saw. Enjoy!
